Knowledge promotion in the humanities and social sciences within civil
society has traditionally been framed as a form of science popularization.
However, beyond merely providing citizens with access to academic
knowledge, communicators increasingly aim to foster more active public
engagement with social and political issues. In this forum, the Secretariat of
the Taiwan Communication Association presents a conceptual framework
that delineates the distinctions between popular science communication and
academics’ public writing. Professional editors from knowledgecommunication
blogs in anthropology, sociology, political science, history,
and communication studies have been invited to share their experiences and
reflect on the practices of disseminating knowledge to the public.
